Songs of Hope and Healing: The Kids Rock Cancer Documentary, was created to raise awareness of music therapy by shining a light on Kids Rock Cancer—as a powerful example of how this therapy can help children manage the physical and emotional trauma of cancer in their lives.
Narrated by nationally-renowned broadcaster Bob Costas, the documentary tells the story of Kids Rock Cancer from the patient perspective through interviews and footage featuring children who have benefited from the program: 7-year old Arianna, 19-year old Pierre and others.
The documentary will be offered to the more than 400 public television stations around the country along with other non-commercial stations such as St. Louis’s HEC-TV, which features a wide range of arts and education programming.
This broad exposure will bring multiple benefits. It will …
- Raise awareness of music therapy as a powerful medical treatment …
- Increase awareness of Kids Rock Cancer by families affected by pediatric cancer, making them more likely to seek it out through their own hospital treatment center or through a sponsoring organization like the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis …
- Introduce the program to cancer support agencies who may wish to offer individual or group sessions …
- Draw the attention of individuals and organizations who may wish to support Kids Rock Cancer financially, and …
- Heighten awareness of music therapy as a potential field for individuals who are exploring careers in Health Professions.
The documentary is slated to air over the PBS network and HEC-TV in 2015. It will also be available via the HEC-TV website (hectv.org) and on DVD.
Once broadcast dates are set; they will be posted on the Kids Rock Cancer’s social media pages and blog.
