Rock Star of the Month

When KRC’s music therapist, Jaime, met Amoralee, Jaime was walking down the halls of SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital with a guitar on her back. The moment Amoralee saw the guitar; her eyes widened and she smiled, giving a big, “Hello!” She was recovering from surgery and was excited to be up and about in the hospital and in the playroom. Together in the playroom they shared stories of their favorite things. They both were cheerleaders, loved music and had a love for butterflies.

Amoralee had been recently reading a book on how butterflies start as caterpillars and grow wings to fly. During their session, they talked about the similarities between a butterfly learning to fly and Amoralee having her surgery. She said, “They are probably scared at first; their wings are beautiful!” Amoralee admitted to feeling scared about her surgery but is feeling so much better now and is “flying” through recovery. On February 21, Amoralee was able to perform her song at Maryville’s #1000 Saints and won the hearts of the audience, especially the cheerleaders. She is an aspiring singer, songwriter and cheerleader at her school. Keep flying high, Amoralee!
