RECAP: Kids Day Out 2018

For Kids Rock Cancer rock star Ashlynn, taking the mound at Busch Stadium before a St. Louis Cardinals game was a dream come true.

Ashlynn, 11, was invited to throw out the first pitch on June 7 during the third annual Kids Day Out at Busch Stadium.

“Ashlynn loves to play softball and throwing out  the first pitch was extra special,” senior music therapist Tracie Sandheinrich says. “With her family and the KRC team joining her on the field, she had quite the fan club cheering her on for that first throw into the strike zone.”

Tracie first met Ashlynn earlier this year, on her last day of chemotherapy treatment for B-cell lymphoma.

“When asked how she felt about finishing treatment, she lit up and excitedly said, ‘I feel amazing, I’m finally done!'” Tracie recalls. “During the session, Ashlynn was wearing a T-shirt that said ‘Straight Outta Chemo which ended up being one of the themes in her song, ‘Last Day of Chemo.’

“That truly was a joyous day and worth some serious celebration. Ashlynn literally sang her way through her last bag of chemo.”

Kids Rock Cancer is grateful for the continued support of the St. Louis Cardinals and the opportunity to partner on this event.

“What a fun day at the stadium,” says Liz Haynes, director of special programs at Maryville University. “Our rock star did an amazing job throwing out the first pitch. We are so grateful for the amazing support from the St. Louis Cardinals — Kids Rock Cancer received $1 from every ticket sold for Kids Day Out!”
