When Chazsady first heard about KRC, she didn’t even wait for her music therapist, Tracie, to finish introducing the program…she immediately jumped up and said, “Anything with music and songwriting, I’m in!” From that moment on, Tracie knew this would be the perfect kind of opportunity for Chazsady. With the biggest smile on her face, Chazsady took her phone and played some recordings of songs that she had already written and recorded. She had a true passion for music. During the session, Chazsady opened up about receiving treatment for a brain tumor. Before her diagnosis she became very thin, started to move slower than normal, and experienced both increased weakness and severe headaches. The symptoms resulted in a seizure that led her straight to the hospital. She said she remembered feeling scared and not being able to move. But during all those events, she had her family to support her. She said she also turned to music to “express herself.” She would sing and make up songs “on the fly” to help pass the time. This helped her process what she was dealing with. She felt that she wanted to encourage others to do the same, saying “Music helped me not think about what hurts. Everybody needs some help and they should not feel ashamed to be themselves.” Her inspirational words and lyrics will help inspire others to keep their heads up and continue believing in themselves. She sang it best, “Don’t hide your feelings…express yourself!” Listen to Chazsady’s song.
Express Yourself – by Chazsady
Come on, come on
Turn up the radio
Come on, come on
Turn up the music
Listen to your favorite songs
Turn it up and play it all night long
When something hurts
Don’t think about it, yeah
When you don’t know what to say
Turn it up and let it play
Everybody needs some help
Go on, express yourself
Just believe in yourself
Even when it’s hard to breathe
Don’t worry, you’re not alone
Just trust in your family
Listen to your favorite songs
Turn it up and play it all night long
When something hurts
Don’t think about it, yeah
When you don’t know what to say
Turn it up and let it play
Everybody needs some help
Go on, express yourself
Don’t hide your feelings
Don’t be afraid, just be yourself
Sing out strong and you will know
Have some fun and let your light show
Listen to your favorite songs
Turn it up and play it all night long
When something hurts
Don’t think about it, yeah
When you don’t know what to say
Turn it up and let it play
Everybody needs some help
Go on, express yourself
