KRC Goes to Camp Quality!

This is Kids Rock Cancer’s second year at Camp Quality in central Missouri. As they say, “Camp Quality is not in the business of finding a cure for cancer, but we are in the business of ensuring that every child who has been diagnosed with cancer can not only have a summer camp experience, but year-round programs to enhance their quality of life and encourage quality family time.”

During the session, participants in this group—comprised half-and-half of survivors and siblings—poured their hearts out. This unique camp truly believes in allowing campers to simply be themselves and take part on their own time, so we brought that theory to life in our session: encouraging “both sides” of the story between siblings and survivors. Through conversation, they realized that while they are at camp, they are not divided; being together only makes them stronger. They were able to talk freely and openly support one another, even though they have very different experiences and perspectives when it comes to their cancer journey. Combining the campers did not make them stand apart … rather, it unified them.

Together

Together

We’re here as one

A common thread is what we’ve become

Together

Together

No matter what

We’ll stick together with faith and trust

Listen to our story

We’ve got something to say

Not an excuse,

Not just one bad day

Waiting in the dark

Want the pain to go away

I got my people here

My support is here to stay

Having to explain

I keep my story hid

What did you expect?

A bald and skinny kid, yeah,

We know, everyone did

Together

Together

We’re here as one

A common thread is what we’ve become

Together

Together

No matter what

We’ll stick together with faith and trust

You asked me how they are

But what about me

I understand why

Their problem’s easier to see

I’m feeling guilty, too

Just want them to be free

My feelings have validity

Someone hear my plea

I know your intention’s true

But I don’t know how to answer you

Please ask us

Don’t just assume

It may be hard to talk about

Shouldn’t be taboo

Together

No matter what

We’ll stick together with faith and trust

Thanks for Listening!
