Kids Rock Cancer recently spent some time at Camp Quality Central Missouri, part of a national organization providing community-based camping experiences and ongoing support programs for children with cancer and their families.
“What an amazing first year at Camp Quality!,” says Tracie Sandheinrich, senior music therapist for Kids Rock Cancer. Tracie and her fellow music therapist, Jaime Wilhite, worked with 13 patients, siblings and companions ages 12-29 to write “We Are the Future.”
“At Camp Quality, kids are able to pick and choose what they want to do with their time — an opportunity which often gets taken away when a cancer diagnosis comes into play,” Tracie says. “Through an emotional, moving therapeutic songwriting session, these 13 campers came together to share their different stories, experiences, and most of all, their feelings about how cancer changes you forever.”

Their song, “We Are the Future,” serves as a message to everyone that these kids are definitely a force and that they have something to say and deserve to be heard.
“Despite their different backgrounds, they all came together in support and genuine compassion for each other, lifting each other’s spirits through song,” Tracie says. “Camp Quality continues to promote hope and inspiration while helping children foster life skills and develop their full potential.”
